The Office of Finance and Grants Administration (OFGA) provides a centralized, specialized financial, and grants management service throughout the School of Medicine. It currently oversees seven departments within the School of Medicine totaling over $50,000,000 in current annual balance. The Financial and Grants Manager (FGM) under the direction of the Director of Finance and Administration, will be a part of the OFGA team and is responsible for post-award grant management for a diverse portfolio of federal and non-federal grants, Center funds and discretionary funds.

The FGM, will work closely with researchers and other members of the team and will be responsible for analyzing financial reports and projections for trends and presenting data analysis and financial reports to the Department's Principal Investigators (PIs) and the Director of Finance - for use in long-term planning and decision-making. The FGM will respond to a variety of financial inquiries as they arise and will work closely with other offices to ensure all problems are addressed in timely manner. The position serves as liaison between HR, post-doctoral office, student employment office, faculty affairs office and Principal Investigators (PI) in the process of hiring of new faculty and staff members, students and post-docs, and with onboarding temporary employees, volunteers and academic job family positions. Ensure compliance with BU HR policy and procedure; work with the PI, HR and Compensation to review job descriptions for new positions. Assist PIs with other hiring and personnel related issues.

Additional duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working with the Director of Finance in monitoring and reconciling post-award expenditures/invoices
  • Following up with any problems discovered and resolving with appropriate actions
  • Monitoring post-award budgetary expenses for his/her portfolio to ensure compliance in accordance with granting agencies and University guidelines
  • Ensuring expenditures are allowable and allocated to correct funds
  • Advising Principal Investigators on Boston University's policies and procedures, as well as providing expertise and guidance regarding NIH and other sponsors' rules and regulations
  • Attending meetings, trainings and workshops to stay current on job-related regulations and policies - HR responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree and 5-8 years of experience required.
