Job Responsibilities01. Meets with and interviews campus personalities to obtain informaiton of potential interest to the University community, 02. Prepares articles for publication in printed materials or web outlets, 03. Integrates photos and text to produce informative and intersting articles for Uinversity publications, 04. Performs other duites as assigned.

Job Details

This job includes writing stories at least three articles a week about campus events and news plus local, church and international news. They are posted online, on social media and in a monthly magazine. Journalists need to be able to find local people to interview who are knowledgeable about the various subjects they write about and must be able to talk to people they don't know. They also must be able to manage their own time and meet deadlines. There are three required planning and training meetings to attend each week. They have a copy editor to mentor them. They also do multimedia storytelling that may include video, info graphics and more. Applicants need to write a 500-word news story with quote from at least three people in the Laie area. It can be on any topic of interest to our readership. It should be written from most important to least important information and avoid editorializing or stating the writer's opinion. The first sentence of the story should include the very most important information and there is no conclusion. Read some articles at www.kealakai.byuh for examples of news writing. Physical RequirementsUsually works in a typical office environment. Does require occasional exposure to full gamut of campus work situations.
