Job Description:

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Oregon State University seeks a strong, innovative team leader to direct our doctoral psychology internship training program and oversee the practicum training program. The Assistant Director of Training is a 12-month, non-tenure track, fixed-term full-time position that reports to the Director of CAPS. We seek candidates who will enhance the diversity of our staff, with strong cross-cultural fluency in supporting underserved and marginalized communities. The ideal candidate has engaged in self-examination of their biases and privileges, is aware of systemic levels of oppression, and works from a social justice lens.

CAPS is a leader within the Division of Student Affairs in supporting the mental well-being of all OSU students. CAPS provides a range of services to help students succeed, including psychoeducation, single session interventions, public health approaches, group therapy, and brief relational and individual therapy. We also make referrals to health care providers in the community when longer-term care is indicated.

The Assistant Director of Training reports to the Director of CAPS and is a member of the administrative leadership team. This position provides vision and leadership, and contributes to developing, implementing, and achieving the goals of the department.

This position is specifically responsible for the leadership, coordination, and daily operations of the APA-accredited doctoral psychology internship training program, and oversees the practicum training program. The Assistant Director of Training is involved in program development, outreach, and maintenance of membership and accreditation status of the training program. This position is responsible for the assessment of learning outcomes of trainees and program evaluation related to the training program.

In addition, this position provides direct counseling, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of student clients. The Assistant Director of Training is also involved in outreach, service, teaching, and training within CAPS and OSU.

This position may assume the responsibilities of the Director when the Director and Associate Director are unavailable.


Required Qualifications

• Earned doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program and internship or equivalent.

• Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Oregon, or eligible for transfer of license from another jurisdiction within 6 months of hire date.

• A demonstrable commitment and ability to promote and enhance diversity, including an ongoing development of multicultural competence in working with a diverse population.

• 3 years of post-licensure experience providing clinical services in a university counseling service or other therapeutic setting.

• 3 years of experience providing training and clinical supervision to psychology graduate trainees.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and/or other various personnel/agencies for the effective implementation of the training program.

• Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team (including LCSWs, LPCs, and LMFTs).

• Demonstrated ability to model exemplary professional psychologist behaviors.

• Advanced knowledge of modern counseling (including brief counseling) and psychological practices and methods.

• Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities in a timely manner.


Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a training director or practicum coordinator.

• Previous experience providing clinical services, training, and clinical supervision within an APA-accredited doctoral internship training program.

• Previous experience providing administrative supervision of professional staff.


Salary: $95,000 - $103,000. Starting salary within the salary range will be commensurate with skills, education, and experience.
