Description:

Reporting to the Director of Student Affairs, the Assistant Director supports the development and administration of a comprehensive co-curricular experience, as outlined by the leadership of the Office of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and implementation of programs and services that guide the student organizations and develop leadership skills. In doing so, the Assistant Director will assist clubs and professional organizations with resource building, organization development, and leadership development. The Assistant Director will participate fully as a member of the Office of Student Affairs, inclusive and responsive to student interests and needs.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for management and oversight of Student Council, student clubs and professional organizations.

• Provide departmental vision and strategic leadership for all recognized student clubs and professional organizations, inclusive of student organization renewal efforts and logistical support of student events (such as vendor selection, price negotiation and contract acquisition).

• Collaborate with the Director in the review, development and implementation of student club and professional organization policies and procedures.

• Develop and keep Student Council Constitution and Student Handbook updated.

• Create and manage club/organization trainings and workshops, and develop and distribute resources for student clubs and professional organizations.

• Create systematic review of and fill open faculty mentor positions for all student clubs and professional organizations.

• Serve as advisor and administrative liaison for student club and professional organization advisors (communication, training, leadership development).

• Manage external image and communication of all student organizations, inclusive of medical school website content, Student Council website content, student achievements and publications, and a student-to-staff newsletter.

• Manage all school-wide student social programming including but not limited to, activities such as Senior Week, Social Formal, Halloween, Orientation through the New & Prospective Students Committee, and Anatomical Gift Service. Provide advisement, leadership development, resources and presentations to support the general interests of all students seeking involvement opportunities.

• Remain knowledgeable and up-to-date on current risk management practices in higher education with emphasis on how it relates to clubs and organizations.

• Represent student organizations across Hofstra University and Northwell Health when needed.

• Present student services to prospective students during the admissions application season.

• Approve Conference Funding Applications on a weekly basis. Review Conference Funding Guidelines and reimbursement process on an annual basis.

• Work collaboratively with all departments across the medical school, including the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Office of Admissions, Office of Curriculum Support, Office of Student Finance, Office of Student Records, and Events Management.

• Maintain accurate and detailed budget reports of student fees and associated expenditures.

• Provide monthly reports to leadership and distribute school-wide newsletters regarding student organization accomplishments and upcoming events.

• Work collaboratively with Director and Student Council to plan and implement new programs.

• Participate in departmental goal setting, serve on committees and special projects as appropriate.

• Participate in professional activity and development as outlined by the Director and Associate Dean.

• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or related field preferred. Must be a collaborative and learning-centered professional with experience in student affairs or higher education, and/or equivalent related experience. A successful candidate must exhibit strong organizational skills, training skills, and superior verbal and written communication skills with proven experience conducting presentations for varied audiences. Must demonstrate the ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in teams, which includes colleagues and students with demonstrated ability to use current computer technology (Microsoft Office Products and Google Docs) proficiently. Must have experience and current knowledge of applying best practices in student affairs, student development theory, and current risk management practices in higher education. The Assistant Director must have the ability to exercise independent, sound, analytical/diagnostic judgements and have demonstrated experience in advising student organizations, program creation, working with college policy, and/or leadership development programs.

Evening and weekend work required.
