DescriptionLocation:NewportDepartment:SURGICAL TECHNOLOGYPOSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Program Director delivers clinical and classroom instruction to Surgical Technology students that is in alignment with program goals that will ultimately lead to the production of competent Surgical Technologists. Instruction will support attainment of program goals within the three domains of learning-cognitive, hands-on and professional conduct.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and deliver classroom lectures and clinical instruction to students.

Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.

Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.

Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.

Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.

Supervise laboratory sessions.

Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.

Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.

Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.

Maintains accessibility to students via email, phone, or personal conferences. Maintains course/student records such as student grades, attendance, and training activity details in accordance with FERPA regulations and submit records by established deadlines.

Keeps a flexible weekly schedule that best facilitates student learning and access.

Remains current in academic or program discipline, including maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate. Receives training or stay current in advances within the field of study that promote student learning.

Participates in college professional development activities.

Helps students identify and achieve their educational goals through participating in the college's advising process, as well as providing incidental academic advice to students in classes.

Posts and keeps office hours to facilitate interaction with students, the college community, and the public.

Attends commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the faculty member's discipline or program. Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required by supervisor. Performs other academically-related duties as assigned by instructor's supervisor.

Performs certain administrative or service duties in support of the Surgical Technology program.

MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Certified in the field of Surgical Technology (CST) through a national credentialing organization accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)

Must hold the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.

Must have a minimum of two (2) years of operating room experience or two (2) years of teaching experience as an instructor of surgical technology, or a combination of both.

Must be knowledgeable in course content and effective in directing/evaluating student learning and laboratory performance

2001 - ASUN hired its first Chancellor, Dr. Larry Williams.

2002 - Gift received from Arkansas Steel and Associates of $250,000 to endow cultural programs.

2002 - ASUN received initial national accreditation by Higher Learning Commission.

2003 - ASUN enrollment exceeds 1,000 students.

2004 - Gift received from Walton Family Foundation in the amount of $1 million, in honor of Lindley and Kaneaster Hodges Jr.

2004 - Ground broke on a Student Community Center.

2004 - The high voltage lineman technology program was created from a partnership between ASUN and the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.

2005 - Named by Community College Week magazine as one of the top ten fastest-growing public two-year colleges.

2006 - Ten-year accreditation granted by Higher Learning Commission of North Central Accreditation.

2006 - First fully online degree program offered - Associate of Arts in Business.

2007 - ASUN assumed operational oversight for the technical centers in both Jonesboro and Marked Tree.

2009 - ASUN enrollment exceeds 2,000 students.

2012 - ASUN hosts "First Decade Celebration" in Newport, Marked Tree and Jonesboro.

2012 - $1 million gift received from Fowler Family in support of Hospitality Services program.

2013 - Dr. Sandra Massey named ASUN's second Chancellor.

2014 - ASUN becomes fifth largest community college in Arkansas in headcount enrollment.

2015 - 2500 STRONG - In Fall 2015 beat it's all-time enrollment record with 2,533 students.
