Position Title: Burn Surgeon
Position Type: Faculty
Hiring Unit: SURGERY
Position Description: The University of Chicago's Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for a faculty member at any rank, and invites applications. As a full-time faculty member, the successful applicant will contribute to patient care, medical education, and scholarship, and join a vibrant, diverse, and distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago Medicine, the Biological Sciences Division, the Pritzker School of Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. A tradition of excellence in patient care, basic, clinical, and translational sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world's top academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an academic physician.

Clinical responsibilities will include burn coverage at The University of Chicago with expertise in general plastic and/or trauma reconstruction. Other duties will include training and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows, basic, clinical/outcomes or translational research. We especially welcome applicants with active engagement in scholarly activity and teaching as well as some experience in a level one trauma center.

The UCM has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927. Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children's Hospital, Bernard A. Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds in service and net patient care revenues over $1.4 billion. Plans are underway for a new trauma program and an additional 150-bed patient tower. New ambulatory facilities are located in Orland Park and the South Loop, and the Ingalls Health System has recently integrated into the network.

The Section of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is committed to excellence in education, research, patient care and community service. It has 8 full-time faculty members who attend UChicago facilities at Hyde Park and Orland Park. The Section runs the University of Chicago Burn and Complex Wound Center, which has been verified by the American Burn Association and the Committee of Trauma of the American College of Surgeons every three years for the past 15 years. Burn care at The University of Chicago is multi-disciplinary; the team includes plastic surgeons, critical care physicians, physical and occupational therapists, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacist, social workers, clergy and a nurse practitioner.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must have 1) a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) have or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) have completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in burn reconstruction, and 4) be board certified or eligible in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
