Position Title: Faculty Leadership Position in Cancer Biology
Position Type: Faculty
Division/School: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES DIVISION
Hiring Unit: BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES DIVISION
Position Description: The University of Chicago's Biological Sciences Division (BSD) and Ludwig Center for Metastasis Research (LCMR) invite applications from investigators with research interests in cancer and metastasis, broadly defined. LCMR seeks a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD (or equivalent) scientist with a record of creative accomplishments who will establish a highly productive research program and lead an interdisciplinary group of scientists in a rigorous and innovative study of cancer. Candidates should already be at senior faculty rank or its equivalent outside academia. Investigators with demonstrated leadership skills and experience leading team efforts or building multidisciplinary research programs are especially encouraged to apply.

The candidate will assume a leadership position within the broad cancer research community at the University of Chicago and specifically within the LCMR. The successful candidate will articulate a vision for cancer research relevant to the study of metastases and further strengthen the cancer research community at the University, which may include the recruitment of new faculty. Cancer research at the University of Chicago is distributed among multiple units throughout the BSD and University, with the Comprehensive Cancer Center and LCMR serving as major centers for coordination and strategic direction. The BSD welcomes a candidate with the vision to play a leadership role among this considerable talent pool and to help develop a forward-looking, comprehensive, and unified approach to cancer biology and treatment.

Robust core research infrastructure resources are currently available to support cancer research through the Biological Sciences Division and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. In partnership with the LCMR and the new Duchossois Family Institute (https://tinyurl.com/ycgntas9) these resources will now be enhanced by the addition of a dynamic set of state-of-the-art technology platforms including, but not limited to, sample biorepository, metabolomics, medicinal chemistry, sequencing and single-cell genomics, and a sophisticated informatics infrastructure for data integration and analytics. As a result of recent institutional investments, cancer researchers will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in venture creation and technology commercialization from the Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (https://polsky.uchicago.edu/page/about), ensuring that any intellectual property generated is protected, licensed, and potentially spun-off for business development.

Rank will be commensurate with accomplishments, with a primary faculty appointment in any of several departments within the BSD, and options for secondary appointments throughout the University of Chicago. Those interested in being considered must apply online by submitting a curriculum vitae and statement of research interests at the University of Chicago's Academic Career Opportunities website at https://tinyurl.com/CancerBiologyLeader. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
