    Painter/General Maintenance
    Facilities

    Overview
    Repairs and paints interior and exterior walls, woodwork, fixtures and other components of university structures. Performs general maintenance duties.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old finish, applying putty, plaster or otherwise repairing surface damage, or taping and floating sheetrock.
    • Properly protects surfaces not to be painted by taping, masking or covering.
    • Evaluate surfaces and select appropriate paint or other finish material to be applied.
    • Prepare finish material and mix additives to obtain desired color and consistency.
    • Apply finish with spayer, roller or brush.
    • Assist with general maintenance to include minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry projects, etc.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Three years professional experience as a painter with verifiable local references.
    • Knowledge of surface peculiarities and types of finish materials appropriate for different applications.
    • Must be capable of identifying paint and woodwork finishes and matching colors and sheens.
    • Demonstrate a general knowledge of building maintenance.
    • Ability to prioritize work requests and work with minimum supervision.
    • Ability to climb stairs, work from a ladder, platform lift or scaffolding, and lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
    • Must be available for emergency on-call duty on a periodic schedule.
    • Able to speak, read and write the English language; possess excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with university staff and students.
    • Ability to comply with safety policies, workplace guidelines, and attendance requirements.
    • Must have a valid Texas driver's license, good driving record, and be insurable by University carrier.
    • Successful candidate must complete an employment and/or criminal history background check.

    Work Schedules
    Work schedule is 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday Friday. However, scheduled hours may change for special events or to meet the needs of the facility. Duties may include weekend, holiday, overtime and on-call work.

    Equipment Operated
    University vehicles, compressors, sprayers, power washers, scaffolding and mechanical lifts, shop and hand tools.
