    HVAC Technician II
    (Swing Shift)

    Overview
    St. Edward's University is currently searching for a HVAC Technician-II. This position is primary responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning, heating, ventilation and refrigeration equipment located on campus and will be a valued member of a high-functioning team.

    Responsibilities

    • Operate, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on:
    • Water chillers, cooling towers, and hot-water boilers
    • Heat pumps, refrigeration and kitchen equipment.
    • Pumps, compressors, motors, and other auxiliary equipment
    • Electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic control systems.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by a total of five-year combination of vocational school and paid practical experience in the care and maintenance of air-conditioning and heating equipment and control devices, including instruction in troubleshooting.
    • EPA approved Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate.
    • Knowledge of the principles of air-conditioning and air-conditioning maintenance methods.
    • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of air compressors, pneumatic controls, electronic temperature controls, relay systems, thermostats, VAV systems, VFDs, rooftop and other air-handling units, including gas-fired units, chillers, energy management systems, pumps, 2-pipe and 4-pipe systems.
    • Knowledge of the principles of electricity.
    • Knowledge of standard parts, tools, and test equipment used in the trade and proper and safe installation of new and replacement parts.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals, and the ability to implement that knowledge in actual performance.
    • Ability to plan work and keep accurate records of work performed and materials used.
    • Ability to diagnose electrical, mechanical, and electronic defects.
    • Ability to maintain, adjust, and repair air-conditioning equipment.
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., climb ladders up to 20 feet, and work off scaffolding and platform/lifts at various heights.
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License, good driving record, dependable transportation and must be insurable by university carrier.
    • Must have verifiable local references.
    • Must be able to comply with workplace guidelines and attendance requirements.
    • Successful candidate must complete an employment and/or criminal history background check.

    Equipment operated
    Pumps, motors, compressors, heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment, related test equipment, welders, forklifts, and university vehicles.

    Work Schedules
    Work schedule is typically 2:00 pm 11:00 pm, Monday through Friday, however scheduled hours may change for special events or to meet the needs of the facility. Duties may Include weekend, holiday, overtime and on-call work.
