The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant to join the patient care team in Clinic Administration to support the dental clinics. The College’s Central Sterilization Unit in Clinic Administration is an important function in the health care delivery system.

This position provides sterilization/dispensing services for instruments/materials used in the College of Dentistry clinics; is responsible for decontamination, maintenance, inspection, preparation, processing and the dispatch of instrumentation, supplies and service; stocks sterile supplies and equipment kept in the department according to acceptable infection control standards; this position is responsible for quality control testing, monitoring of sterilization equipment and assisting with quarterly inventory. Hours will vary with the needs of the Central Sterilization area; may work evenings and/or weekends and provides back up coverage in the two Dispensaries as needed. Frequent lifting/pulling/pushing up to 50 lbs.; frequent bending/twisting/turning/ reaching below knees and above shoulders; frequent standing/walking.

Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

Candidate must be able to: work nights and/or weekend as needed for college events; frequent lifting/pulling/pushing up to 50lbs; frequent bending/twisting/turning/reaching below knees and above shoulders; and involves frequent standing/walking. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: blood borne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments and latex. Demonstrates ability to work well with others as part of a fast-paced team.

Three months of experience (three courses) in dental office practices and procedures; three months of experience (three courses) in dental operatory practices and procedures; three months of experience (three courses) in four-handed assisting techniques; three months of experience (three courses) in inventory record-keeping; three months of experience (300 hours training) in care of dental equipment; one month of experience (100 hours training) in using a computer. MUST PASS HEALTH STANDARDS AND REQUIREMENTS PRESCRIBED BY LAW PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT (e.g., hepatitis, vaccination series, and TB test). Positions performing radiography must be registered with the Ohio Dental Board as a Dental Assistant Radiographer.

Experience using a personal computer and Microsoft Office to generate a variety of materials ranging from basic to complex in a business environment; one year of experience in an in-person customer service setting; excellent interpersonal skills.
