The Department of Chemistry seeks a Laboratory Manager (to be appointed at the Associate or more senior Professional Specialist rank) to oversee a large active (~40 people) research laboratory that focuses on the fields of organic synthesis and catalysis. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field, preferably with over ten years of additional research experience in synthetic organic chemistry. The candidate should have an extensive background in research that is focused on platforms for reaction development involving organocatalysis, photoredox catalysis, and metal-mediated catalysis. He/She should be highly self-motivated and will be required to organize and maintain general lab functions such as managing projects, maintaining equipment and training students. Importantly, the candidate is expected to engage actively in the research of the lab. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Responsibilities also include managing spending on federal and corporate sponsored grants, and unrestricted research funding; proposal and budget development, and coordinating sponsored research and other grant submissions. The lab manager's responsibilities will include but are not limited to managing the laboratory equipment and facilities, conducting research, overseeing the ordering of supplies and equipment, lab financial management, supervising researchers, acting as the lab safety officer, and interacting with the departmental administration. Essential Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and have working knowledge of general laboratory equipment and materials; the ability to work independently within a team environment; and have excellent organizational, record-keeping, and verbal and written communication skills. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated, with excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to supervise others. Candidates must possess excellent skills in finding novel approaches to cost savings.
