The Assistant Dean will be involved in all aspects of the general admission process: recruitment travel, interaction with prospective students and their families, interviewing, application review, and the selection of candidates.
This position will work with the Director of Admission as well as the Transfer Recruitment team to develop and carry out the strategic recruitment plan that will help to achieve the goals set for transfer enrollment. The position will serve to recruit at local community colleges as well as some high schools to meet with prospective students regarding Hofstra University. The primary responsibility for this position will be to complete credit evaluations as well as the recruitment of transfer students.
Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Reading and evaluating applications and participating in the committee process to select candidates for admission
• Evaluation of transfer credits both domestically and internationally
• Interviewing prospective candidates on and off-campus.
• Conducting information sessions.
• Maintaining articulation agreements
Candidates must be able to organize and handle all aspects of administration and adhere to the rules and regulation of Hofstra University, the Colonial Athletic Conference and the NCCA.
Bachelor's degree and a valid driver's license are all required at the time of employment. At least 2-3 years of selective admission experience which includes direct experience working with transfer students is strongly preferred.
The position requires strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to relate to a broad range of constituents (students, parents, alumni, school counselors, etc.), an appreciation for and sensitivity to a wide variety of backgrounds and traditions. This candidate will also need to be a strong public speaker who can present information in a concise and thorough manner. Strong skills with the Microsoft program suite of programs are essential as well as strong data analysis background.
Familiarity with computerized admissions and financial aid systems, such as SCT Banner will aid in the transition into this role.
