The STEM Assistant Director will assist the Associate Director of Learning, Teaching, and Innovation, Associate Dean of Learning, Innovation, and Teaching, and faculty and grant staff on the research of, design, implementation, and assessment of best practices, including integration of technology, active and inquiry based learning, and research-driven approaches.
The position will coordinate the T3 grant faculty learning community, support faculty development and technology integration, and serve as an expert resource for best practices that will aid in meeting the University's mission and strategic plan as well as T3 grant project goals and objectives.
The position will work closely with faculty, chairs, the grant team, and the Associate Director of Learning, Teaching, and Innovation on the ongoing process of curricular review and improvement through development, assessment, and review of STEM course curriculum.
The individual will also work closely with IT in all areas pertaining to educational uses of technology.

Specific Duties:

  • Collaborate with and assist faculty in the research, development, implementation, and assessment of modern learning environments that promote technology-enabled, student-centered, research-driven and active and inquiry-based learning pedagogies.
  • Support the Associate Director of Learning, Teaching, and Innovation in the design, development and delivery of appropriate training, certificate programs, and professional development in service of the University’s mission and strategic plan as well as grant initiatives.
  • Serve as an expert resource for exploration of new methodologies and best practices in education, teaching, and learning.
  • Facilitate and assist the Associate Director of Learning, Teaching, and Innovation in implementing the faculty development workshops that support effective pedagogies to serve underrepresented populations.
  • Support the T3 grant faculty learning community, including supporting faculty in the scholarship of teaching and learning by assisting them in design and assessment of curricular initiatives that lead to presentations and publications.
  • Assist T3 grant team, internal evaluation team, and external evaluator in writing the quarterly Title III grant reports.
  • Work closely with IT, assisting them with faculty support and technology
    integration and maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in STEM related field
  • 3 years experience in Curriculum design, including student-centered, technology informed, active and inquiry-based teaching and learning methodologies.
  • 3 years experience working with university STEM faculty - upper and lower
    division courses.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent project and meeting organization and management skills.
  • Interpersonal and human relations skills to interact with all levels of La Verne faculty and staff.
  • Experience working with students from underrepresented populations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Good initiative-taking and independent working skills.
  • Conflict resolution experience.
