Position Qualifications - Responsibilities:

The Chair of Social Work and Human Services is a 12-month position that reports directly to the Dean. The Chair provides academic and administrative leadership to a dynamic department of 14 multidisciplinary full-time faculty, a large pool of part-time faculty, three staff members, and approximately 400 students enrolled in the graduate and undergraduate programs. The Department of Social Work and Human Services prepares engaged, innovative professionals and global citizens who are educated to enrich the lives of individuals and families for the purpose of promoting social justice and enhancing the quality of communities.

The successful candidate should 1) be a strong and strategic visionary with empowering, democratic team-building and interpersonal skills; 2) have the ability to promote the vision and mission of the University, College, and the Department; 3) have diverse professional experience supporting the administrative role, including taking leadership in strategic planning, managing budgets, managing personnel, allocating resources, maintaining accreditations, seeking external funding, building community collaborations, and promoting faculty scholarship. The Chair also serves as an instructional leader who maintains a record of teaching effectiveness and applied scholarly achievement.
● A demonstrated history of strong, decisive leadership working with faculty, students, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders;
● A breadth of direct working knowledge providing oversight and fiscal responsibility relative to departmental or college budget management;
● The ability to foster a culture of trust, transparency, and collegiality while serving as an advocate for the mission and values of the Department;
● Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills for communication, consultation, and collaboration;
● A record of academic excellence commensurate with tenure at the rank of associate or full professor;
● A scholarship agenda appropriate for career progression.

Required Education - Experience - Skills (Minimum Qualifications):

The successful candidate must have the following :
● An earned doctorate or its foreign equivalent in social work, human services, education, psychology, or another related field.

The Department of Social Work and Human Services is comprised of diverse faculty representing a broad range of robust qualitative and quantitative scholarship and a strong record of community engagement and professional service. The Department offers an undergraduate degree in Human Services as well as the graduate Master of Social Work. Both are accredited programs (CSHSE and CSWE respectively). Additionally, the Department offers the Child Advocacy certification and the Nonprofit Leadership certificate, which are open to both majors and non-majors.

The WellStar College occupies a $60 million Health Science Building (Prillaman Hall). This state-of-the-art building provides a quality facility of almost 200,000 square feet. It is a college on the move making significant contributions to excellence in education, community service (both locally and globally), and scholarship. The WellStar College has been an active participant in the University’s globalization initiative with partners throughout the world.
