Position Summary and Responsibilities Position Summary and Responsibilities: Vassar College, a prestigious liberal arts college in Poughkeepsie, New York, seeks applications and nominations for the position of Dean of Admission and Student Financial Services. The successful candidate will design and implement a strategic and effective approach to maintaining and growing the profile of talented, highly engaged and diverse students at the College. In enrolling highly qualified students from all socio-economic, cultural and geographic backgrounds, the Dean is supported by the College's need based financial aid policies and a deep commitment to inclusion through a College-wide program of engaged pluralism. The Dean of Admission and Student Financial Services oversees a staff of 29, serves on select College committees including serving as co-chair to the College Committee on Admission and Financial Aid and as staff to the Admissions Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Dean also presents admissions and financial aid information and strategy to the Board of Trustees, and partners closely with the Athletics Department and the Offices of Alumnae/i Affairs and Development, Finance and Administration, and Communications. Reporting to the Dean of Strategic Planning and Academic Resources, the Dean of Admission and Student Financial Services is a member of the senior staff and works collaboratively with the President on College-wide goals and decision-making.
Priorities: The Dean will embrace Vassar's commitment to access, inclusion and engaged pluralism while bringing innovative approaches including the use of technological tools to building and shaping the admissions pipeline and enrolling students who will thrive at Vassar. The Dean will also oversee the effective use of financial aid policies to meet College financial goals and enrollment targets. The Dean will possess excellent analytical skills and a sophisticated approach to market analysis and enrollment modeling. Strong leadership with the ability to foster the development of a highly skilled admission and financial aid team is essential. Other priorities include collaborating with Communications staff on a recently launched branding exercise and with the Office of Alumnae and Alumni Affairs on a renewed Alumnae/i Admissions Programs.
Qualifications: Candidates for this position should be passionate about a liberal arts education and dedicated to inclusion and diversity in all forms. The ideal candidate will have the professional presence, skills and demeanor necessary to represent Vassar effectively to internal and external communities, including prospective students, high school counselors, parents, alumnae and alumni, the Board of Trustees, and faculty, as well as to the media. Candidates should have these additional qualities and experiences:Sophistication and experience with effective recruitment and enrollment strategies in a competitive and complex admission environment. Strong analytical skills in assessing the effectiveness of recruitment and financial aid funding modeling. Excellent oral and written communication skills. A strategic approach to enrollment and financial aid that is both data-driven and mission-guided. Knowledge of market trends especially in selective admissions. Experience with innovative approaches, including technologies, in building an applicant pool and a student body. Enthusiasm for learning about and participating in national conversations about admissions in higher education. Financial and budgetary mastery. Willingness to participate in all aspects of the admissions process. Commitment to the professional development of staff members. Strong belief in collaborative efforts with senior administration and faculty. An inspirational leadership style. Calm, warm and welcoming demeanor characterized by empathy and the ability to listen. Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
