Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management

The invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management.

The Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management is a senior institutional official reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration. This position is responsible for the oversight of campus buildings and grounds, custodial operations, design and construction, utilities operations and energy conservation for approximately 2.2 million square feet of academic, administrative, research and residential facilities. The University of South Dakota, the state’s flagship university, is a comprehensive, liberal arts university offering undergraduate, graduate and professional programs and is comprised of 63 buildings on 274 acres in a small city setting. USD Facilities Management employs approximately 150 staff and has an operating budget of $8.5 million.

Applicants must possess significant relevant experience with facilities administration, utilities, maintenance and repair, design and construction, budgeting, fiscal administration, people management, client management, and operational planning, as well as have demonstrated ability to establish priorities and set and achieve goals. The Assistant Vice President interacts with a wide variety of university faculty and staff, as well as external constituents. The AVP must be a proven team builder who works inclusively, communicates effectively and possess a customer centric mindset, as well as the ability to navigate a highly complex business environment while successfully assisting campus community members with solving complex problems and developing viable solutions to address customer needs and requests. The AVP must be skilled at developing and sustaining collaborative working relationships that foster trust and support among varied constituencies, as well as possess the ability to motivate, mentor and evaluate employees and promote diversity through recruiting, selecting, developing, training, managing and maintaining the staff that represents our population.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree and progressively responsible experience leading staff and managing facilities; involving project management, maintenance operations, and budget development and utilization. Skilled in continuous process improvement, streamlining work processes, and development of performance measures in order develop and sustain a high-performance culture that values strong leadership, sound planning, and excellent execution, leading to the achievement of goals. Proven ability to understand blueprints and schematics; interpret and apply complex legal and technical documents; and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Preferences: Facilities management leadership experience that demonstrates a broad understanding of public sector or higher education business issues and facilities services operations. Bachelors and/or Master's degree in business administration, public administration, engineering, facilities management or related field.
