Director of Annual Giving

Basic Function/Summary of Position:
The Director of Annual Giving is responsible for overseeing and leading all programs of the Annual Giving Office. The Director will serve as a part of the leadership in the Advancement office, and will collaborate with senior Advancement officers to execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for all prospective CMC donors, with emphasis on alumni and parent constituencies.
The Director must coordinate, maintain, and enhance the Annual Fund through Alumni and Parents Fund programs. The Director will be responsible for supervising assistant/associate directors, coordinators and administrative assistants of Annual Giving. The Director will lead Annual Giving staff in programming annual giving fundraising efforts that include: the student outreach program; student philanthropy initiatives, affinity giving programs (ex. Reunion, Young Alumni, etc), communications/solicitations, Class Agent/Volunteer program, Res Publica Society programs, faculty/staff campaign, stewardship efforts, and other aspects of the Alumni Fund and Parents Fund programs. The individual in this position will develop and manage all activities, events, and gift solicitation programs for the Annual Fund. Will set and meet fundraising goals and create, implement, evaluate, and enhance strategies for successful fundraising for each program under the Office of Annual Giving
Plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive annual giving program. Oversee alumni, parents, and student solicitation programming. Collaborate with other Development offices to execute a thoughtful and strategic fundraising plan.
Understand and manage annual fund fundraising goals, priorities and determine the best implementation of programming towards meeting objectives
Maintain a portfolio of 100-150 personal solicitation prospects.
Supervise all annual campaign solicitation programs. Coordinate advertising, publications, lead letter and other direct mail mailings, telemarketing, and email communications. Collaborate with other members of the stewardship and operations offices to execute strategic gift acknowledgments, pledge fulfillment, credit card update requests and other communication pieces.
Provide staff support to alumni and parent volunteers, and work in conjunction with the Alumni and Parent Relations Office as well as the entire Alumni Association, to plan and coordinate volunteer programs. Recruit and consult with key volunteers to enhance the CMC Class Agent volunteer model.
Manage personal solicitation program in coordination with the Director of Leadership Giving. Work closely with the Leadership Giving office to organize effective annual gift/leadership gift solicitation plans in order to achieve the College’s fundraising priorities. Initiate follow-up and monitor progress with volunteer and staff solicitors.
Identify and supervise Annual Giving stewardship, where appropriate and necessary. Examples may include Thank You calls, Year-end messaging, Donor recognition, etc.
Oversee all Annual Fund data analysis, tracking, projections, and report preparation to ensure achievement of goals. Prepare and submit regular gift solicitation reports and monitor progress on annual giving goals and assess changes to meet projections. Analyze data to identify trends and patterns in Annual Fund history. Coordinate with other members of the Development Office to deliver reports and discuss new strategies. Meet regularly with staff from other Development departments, to maximize collaboration, efficiency, and maintain a donor centric focus.
Develop and monitor Annual Giving Office budgets. Supervise four assistant/associate directors of annual giving, one support staff member, and 20-30 student employees and interns.
Establish new vehicles and gift solicitation programs to expand annual gifts as well as other gifts to the College.
Promote Claremont McKenna College to all constituencies and respond to alumni and parent concerns and correspondence.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree with an advanced degree preferred or experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Three to five years related experience in development or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Must have strong interpersonal, oral, written, and managerial skills. Must be able to multi-task and follow through on multiple projects. Must be organized and able to work well with volunteers.
EXPERIENCE: Must have result‑oriented managerial traits in combination with rigorous planning skills, as well as the ability to bring gift solicitations (personal, written, and telephonic) to successful closure. Must have demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, donors, and trustees. Must be able to work a flexible but intense schedule of more than 40 hours per week, including evenings, weekends, and travel.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel in particular, and must able to develop specialized Raiser’s Edge skills . Knowledge of Blackbaud Services is highly preferred.
This position reports to the Vice President for Development and External Relations.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a full consumer background check. Certain positions will require the successful completion of a post-offer physical agility test.
