Under Facilities and Site Services Management, the Technical Systems Supervisor is responsible for the daily oversight and supervision of functions within the Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) and Electrical Maintenance Crafts.  This encompasses oversight, troubleshooting and repair/replacement as well as functional operations and improvement of the site wide Siemens Desigo Building Automation Systems (BAS) and ancillary support equipment involving Facilities Maintenance HVAC/R and Electrical Technicians. 

 

This individual leads, directs, participates in, and provides insight into the maintenance and improvements of HVAC and related system operations and computerized maintenance management systems that support work order management and preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance programs associated with HVAC mechanical and electrical systems and auxiliary equipment.  Uses expertise to lead, promote and support Energy Management duties and initiatives.

 

The Facilities Technical Systems Supervisor coordinates with Facilities Management as well as other groups throughout the Laboratory to ensure long-term, safe, and efficient operations of associated building and campus systems.   

Responsibilities

Plan, schedule and oversees execution of:

 

Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair a wide variety of HVAC and Refrigeration equipment in a timely and cost efficient manner utilizing knowledge of Siemen’s Desigo system, heating and air-conditioning theory, mechanical layouts, pipefitting, electronics, direct digital controls, airflow, hydronics and other techniques.

 

Installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and operation of the Laboratory’s Siemen’s Desigo BAS to ensure efficient operation of multiple building systems including, but not limited to, HVAC, Lighting, normal electrical power and Laboratory operations.

 

Coordinates the activities of Technical Craft Shops and subcontract personnel, and coordinates work with Shop Lead Technicians to maintain efficient operation of all building heating, cooling, ventilation and refrigeration systems and general building electrical systems (non-programmatic).

 

Assists other Facilities Division personnel with the systems planning, preventative and corrective maintenance of facility structures, systems and components.

 

Performs other supervisory and technical duties and contributes to Facilities Planning and Design input for repairs, replacements and new project work.  Supports Energy Management duties and initiatives. 

Qualifications

 

High School Education or equivalent and formal post high school vocational training in HVAC repair and maintenance, Building Maintenance electrical systems or equivalent.  College degree preferred but not required with appropriate levels of field experience.  

 

 

Ten years of experience in the operation, maintenance, calibration and repair of large-scale industrial and/or commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.  5 years of experience working with Siemen’s building automation control systems.  Two years of experience Installing, Operating, Programming and Modifying Siemen’s Desigo or equivalent Automations Systems.

                                          

Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the National Electric Code, Life Safety Code, OSHA and standard industry practices.  Conform to industry standards concerning safety, lock-out/tag-out, inspections, and operations when dealing with electrical systems. Maintain high consciousness of safety for all personnel and areas involved.

 

Two years of experience in the operation, maintenance, modification and repair of building HVAC systems for radioactive contamination control.

 

EPA Certified Universal Technician in accordance with CAA Sections 608 and 609 to handle CFC’s, HCFC’s and HFC’s.

 

Ability to be on-call, and work overtime, off-shifts, weekends, and holidays when conditions require.

 

Maintain good communication between departments and other shop personnel. Maintain good customer service relationships.

 

Reads and understands blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and layouts.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift fifty pounds and access (or work in) confined or awkward positions
  • Ability to work in Confined Spaces, from elevated platforms, roofs, scaffolding, ladders and overhead positions.
  • Moderate to high level of physical activity including: walking, climbing, lifting, reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling and/or twisting.
