Assistant Head of School

Job description

Position Summary:

Coordinate and help oversee the day to day management and supervision of school operations and services. Oversee student learning support services. Help supervise and mentor faculty. Work closely with parents and the PTO to strengthen school-home connections. Collaborate on curriculum development and laboratory school operations. Serve as a member of the senior leadership team of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Support Services: Oversee student support services and personnel to ensure students’ learning and emotional needs are met.

Faculty Supervision and Support: Work with the head of school to mentor and supervise faculty. Mentor and orient new teachers. Plan and lead grade level meetings. Observe classrooms and provide teachers with feedback about their work.

School Operations: Assume designated responsibilities for the day to day operation of the school including student behavior and well-being; school calendar and schedules; student reports and parent conferences; and school safety. Act as administrator in charge in the head of school’s absence. Work cooperatively with colleagues to support the school’s lab school mission. Serve as the Title IX coordinator with the Smith College Title IX office.

Curriculum: Work with the head of school and director of curriculum to oversee school curriculum and programs, ensuring they are in alignment with the school’s mission and philosophy.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:  Master’s degree in education or related field; demonstrated success as a school leader; elementary school teaching experience; deep knowledge of educational research and trends in elementary school curriculum and instruction; experience in a lab school desirable.

                                                                                           

Skills:  Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage school operations; excellent written and oral communication skills; empathetic and sensitive person; highly collaborative yet able to turn ideas into action; creative, disciplined, thoughtful; strong work ethic; highest professional and personal standards.
