Description of Responsibilities:
The Visiting Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing responsibilities consist of teaching acting and directing classes at all levels, as well as movement. Possible courses could include Introduction to Theatre, in addition to other classes in area of specialization. The VAP may direct one production per year, as well as mentor student directors.
In addition, the Visiting Assisting Professor will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
- Terminal degree in Acting or Directing by time of appointment
- Demonstrated ability in directing plays
- Demonstrated teaching ability which can promote students’ potential to succeed in a multicultural and global community
- The ability to provide stage direction for musical productions
- Professional experience in stage acting and/or directing
- Demonstrated experience teaching movement for the actor

Description of Department: The Theatre Department is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre and offers a major leading to a BA in Theatre with concentrations in Acting/Directing, Design/Technical Theatre, Music Theatre, and History/Criticism. The program provides students with the knowledge and skills to prepare for a career in the theatre and its related fields through a combination of academic and production experiences. The Department offers students training in the foundations of the history, theory and craft of theatre and promotes interdisciplinary and innovative connections while holding itself to high artistic standards of production in the context of a Liberal Arts education.
