The George Washington University Office of the Senior Vice President and General Counsel (OGC) is seeking a 2017, 2018, or 2019 graduate of the George Washington University Law School for the position of Attorney Fellow. This is a two-year position that will begin in September 2019 and end in September 2021.
The successful candidate will join a team of lawyers providing legal and strategic advice to the university and will assist with a variety of legal and policy issues that confront a large urban teaching and research institution. The Attorney Fellow’s work will include contract review and drafting, student and academic matters, litigation, regulatory compliance, and general advice to university clients. Assignments may also include issues related to health law, intellectual property and technology transfer, business and real estate, and employment and labor law.
Excellent research, writing, and communication skills are required. A ranking in the top third of the class and journal membership is preferred. Bar membership is not required at the start of the position, but the successful candidate must have taken the bar examination prior to September 2019. The ability to learn and apply new legal principles, manage a sizeable volume of work and deadlines, and respond to the needs of various client representatives are key. The successful candidate will be a diligent and hard worker, and a thinker who thrives in and can contribute to the office’s fast-paced, collegial team environment.
The Attorney Fellow will receive assignments and take direction from OGC attorneys.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Juris Doctorate degree from accredited institution. Admission to a state bar is not required at commencement of the fellowship, but the successful candidate must sit for a bar exam and be eligible for admission to the District of Columbia Bar by a date provided by the Office of General Counsel.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
