The Department of Counseling and Human Development (CHD) is one of five departments in The Graduate School of Education and Human Development and houses 11 full-time faculty. The department offers master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling. The CHD also houses a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. All programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP). The department is housed at the Foggy Bottom campus in Washington, DC, and also provides programs at the graduate education center in Alexandria (School Counseling), and online (Rehabilitation Counseling). Current CHD faculty research agendas focus on trauma and its co-morbidities, forensic rehabilitation counseling, the transition to high school, ethics in counselor education, employment processes in individuals living with chronic illness, health disparities in at risk populations, and child and adolescent development.

We invite applications for two full-time, tenure accruing nine-month faculty positions in counseling and human development at the Assistant/Associate level. The successful candidates will be able to bridge the disciplines of counseling and human development particularly as they relate to early child development, and grief and trauma.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach 5 courses per academic year according to department needs. The successful candidate must be able to teach core courses in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling curriculum.
•Advise master’s students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and doctoral students in Counselor Education program.
•Maintain a systematic program of research focused in one of two broad areas related to counseling and counselor education: 1) childhood issues; or 2) trauma issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

All applicants should have:
(1) An earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program;
ABD candidates will be considered, but must complete degree requirements by date of appointment;
(2) Demonstrate excellence in effective supervision of master’s and doctoral level students as evidenced by peer or student evaluation;
(3) Promise of excellence in teaching and scholarship;
(4) Licensed, or license eligible for LPC in the District of Columbia.
