I. DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University’s department of Physics is looking to hire a Full-Time Postdoctoral Scientist under the direction of Dr. Andrei Alexandru who is part of the lattice QCD group. The focus of the group is the understanding of hadrons’ spectrum, structure, and their interactions in terms of the dynamics of quarks and gluons. The group has an active program in the areas of nuclear matter at high density and temperature, hadron scattering and electromagnetic polarizabilities, and the mechanisms responsible for confinement and chiral symmetry breaking in QCD.

The Duties Include:
- Plans and develops research projects.
- Prepares talks and presentations for meetings within the group, collaboration meetings with GW colleagues and national and international conferences.
- Writes papers for publication.
- Independently analyses and interprets data.
- Writes research code, debugs tests, optimizes it and runs it at the supercomputer facilities.
- Supervises Graduate and Undergraduate students in the working group.
- Assist in developing educational/pedagogical components associated with the research projects.
- Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a PhD in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in Physics. Demonstrated expertise in lattice field theory (publications in high-impact research journals), especially in quantum chromodynamics; experience writing and running programs on advanced architectures. Candidates whose research expertise overlaps with the research conducted by our lattice QCD group are preferred.
