Temporary Medical Records Assistant


This recruitment is for Temporary Medical Records positions through UCI's internal temporary service.

UCI Temporary Employment Services (TES) is continuously seeking applicants to assist in filling the temporary needs of the UC Irvine Campus in Irvine and the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange. We recruit for this position on an on-going basis in order to build a talent pool of potential candidates

UCI Temporary Employment Services assists in providing temporary staffing throughout the UCI campus, medical center and satellite facilities. There is no need to submit more than one application to temporary jobs within the calendar year. Any given application to UCI Temporary Employment Services will make you an applicant to all temporary recruitments.
Essential Job Functions:
The identification of essential functions below is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties that may be assigned to this position, nor does it restrict the duties which may be assigned to this position if such duties reasonably relate to the position.

Acts as a Data Steward by following appropriate procedures regarding requests, access and disclosure of PHI in accordance with HIPPA regulations and takes necessary precautions to prevent unauthorized access
Compiles and screens for accuracy the physician suspension list according to established guidelines
Effectively coordinates the retrieval, copying and mailing of medical records
Ensures that all subpoenas, search warrants, and attorney requests are responded to within the legal allowable timeframes
Processes and submits all monies received to the Cashier's office daily, according to established guidelines
Reconciles pending paper requests with pending system requests, correcting errors weekly
Serves as University liaison to the patient when the patient chooses to exercise his/her HIPPA privacy rights
Verifies requests for validity as defined by state and federal statutes, and takes appropriate action according to established guidelines

Required Qualifications:

3 years' experience working with hospital medical records
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in the department and across the Health System
Familiarity with alpha/numeric filing systems
Previous experience releasing medical information to requestors
Previous experience working in medical records correspondence
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual in English and Spanish
PC literacy

TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT
*This is a temporary employment recruitment reporting to the UCI Temporary Employment Services (TES) Department
*To be a viable candidate for the temporary employment program, you must be able to start employment within 1 to 2 days after temporary employment is offered
*Interviewing and hiring is based on internal hiring needs and how well the candidate matches the requirements, and a fit to the assignment
*TES is constantly seeking applicants although there may not be the immediate need to interview or hire

*Comprehensive benefits options are also available for temporary employees, including paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave

Hourly rate typically from $21.58 more/less depending on responsibilities and/or skill requirements of the temporary assignment

Work Schedule: Typically, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, (hours may vary)

This is a Floater Position.
