Job Duties:10Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory records. Individual will be responsible for presenting results in individual and group meetings. Individual will be trained directly by the PI at the beginning of the training period.Essential10Present work at local, national and/or international conferences. Individual will be responsible for drafting manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. Will work closely with PI to develop research grant proposals for the laboratory.Essential10Will assist with daily maintenance of laboratory, training of graduate students, and other laboratory personnel.Essential35Develop independent research projects in consultation with the PI. Job summary:

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Scholar position at Dr. Hongkuan Fan’s laboratory (fanhong@musc.edu). Current projects include understanding the molecular mechanism and treatment of vascular dysfunction in sepsis. We focus on endothelial progenitor cell and pericyte function. We are also interested in targeting gut microbiota to treat sepsis. Specific microRNAs, extracellular vesicles, signal transduction proteins, and novel targeted therapies are currently under investigation. Candidates who have a strong interest in sepsis and vascular biology, as well as experience with endothelial cell function, microbiome research, and/or animal sepsis models are preferred. The candidates will be expected to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and write manuscripts. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, goal-oriented, independent, and should serve as an integral member of our scientific team. Interested candidates must have at least one first-authored paper published in a peer-reviewed journal. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or the ability to defend their dissertation within one month of their time of application.
