Job summary: The Medical University of South Carolina College of Medicine in Charleston, S.C., invites applications and nominations for the position of Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences. Applicants must possess a PhD and/or MD with a background in the public health field. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of extramural funding and accomplishment in research, administrative and leadership skills, and a commitment to education, mentoring, and academic excellence.

The department, which ranks in the top 10 in NIH funding for departments of Public Health, consists of approximately 40 faculty with diverse backgrounds, training, and research interests. Faculty are engaged around biostatistical methods development, clinical trials, epidemiology, health disparities, community outreach, and health services. The department offers MPH degrees in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Health Behavior and Health Promotion. In partnership with Clemson University, the department offers students an accelerated pathway to earn an undergraduate degree from Clemson and an MPH from MUSC, or a joint PhD degree in Biomedical Data Sciences and Informatics. The selected individual will report directly to the Dean of the College of Medicine and will be expected to foster new areas of research within the department while supporting and enhancing current research strengths, and to further strengthen and develop educational programs.

The Medical University of South Carolina and MUSC Health are in the midst of an exciting period of growth with increases in extramural research funding, the NCI-designated Hollings Cancer Center, a CTSA award, new clinical outreach facilities, and the construction of a new Children’s and Women’s Hospital.
