Faculty - Computational Modeling of Materials

Job description

Faculty - Computational Modeling of Materials

Austin, Texas
Open Date:
Oct 3, 2018

The University of Texas at Austin Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in the field of computational modeling of materials. The Department is interested in adding expertise that contributes to the fundamental understanding of material behavior through computational modeling, with an emphasis on civil engineering applications.

Examples of desirable expertise include: (i) computational modeling of complex multi-physics and chemical material processes relevant to the deterioration, damage, and/or failure processes afflicting the infrastructure; (ii) multiscale modeling of material behavior that bridges spatial scales; (iii) the design and development of new materials to meet prescribed performance, arrest or delay deterioration, and prevent failure or promote healing. Candidates with demonstrated experience in applications relevant to civil engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mechanics, materials, numerical methods, and structural engineering, develop a sustainable sponsored research program, supervise graduate students, collaborate with other faculty, and be involved in service to the university and the profession. Though preference will be given to applicants at the assistant professor rank, truly exceptional candidates at higher ranks will also be considered.

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Science or other relevant discipline and have the ability to build an independent, externally-funded research program at the forefront of their field.

Application Instructions:

Requested materials include: (1) a letter of interest; (2) a complete CV, including academic and professional experience and a list of publications; (3) statement of research interests outlining areas of technical expertise that complement the department’s strategic plan and vision (available at http://www.caee.utexas.edu/about/strategic); (4) statement of teaching philosophy; and (5) the names and e-mail addresses of a minimum of three references. The letter of interest should be addressed to: Chair, Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering. Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2018.
