Nature of Work    
The Center for Adult Learners and Veterans supports the retention, progression, and graduation of students at the University of West Georgia through services and programs for adult learners, veterans, and their families. The Center serves individual students and leads campus-wide education and awareness initiatives. Through collaboration with University and community resources, the Center offers outreach, in-person and on-line support for student success, and assistance to promote and meet the needs of these learners. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Center for Adult Learners and Veterans, the Departmental Associate will coordinate all activities related to the certification of enrollment of students receiving GI Bill benefits to the Veterans Administration (VA). In support of the Assistant Director, the Departmental Associate will serve as University Liaison with Veteran Affairs, Department of Defense, and state Veterans Bureau. The incumbent will provide individual personalized services on an as needed basis and serve as advocate for Veteran population by interpreting and explaining the policies and procedures related to receiving VA benefits to prospective and current students. Assist in annual state required VA audits and reporting.

Required Qualifications    
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required and 1 year of higher education experience, preferably in a Student Services environment, veteran program administration or very similar field; ability to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail; Ability to read and interpret academic/government policy and translate the information to enrolled veterans and prepare for entry into complex computerized information systems. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with Banner Student Information System; Experience using VA-ONCE or working with Veterans; High comfort level preparing and delivering presentations.

Preferred Qualifications    
Experience with VA-ONCE; 1 year of experience as a School Certifying Official

Salary    $17.14 minimum - $22.38 midpoint

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions    
Must be able to travel to attend professional development opportunities and events and visit satellite campuses. Must possess the willingness and ability to work an unconventional work schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.
