FSU's Equal Opportunity Statement can be viewed at: The Law Enforcement Officer is responsible for: the protection of life and property; prevention of crime and misconduct; traffic and crowd control; criminal and traffic law enforcement; criminal and traffic accident investigation; community service; providing information regarding laws and University policy; and distribution of information to the community.

The Law Enforcement Officer must have a thorough working knowledge: of Federal, State, and Municipal Statutes; University Administrative Code; recognition and identification of controlled substances (narcotics); proper methods of criminal and traffic accident investigation; lawful use of fire arms and deadly force; and the proper administration of Basic Life Support methods

It is a University Law Enforcement Officer's responsibility to work and act at all time under the requirements of the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Code of Ethics.
Provide information and directions to motorists and pedestrians, in addition to providing University Facilities access to authorized persons when requested.
Inspecting and reporting on the condition of safety equipment in and around University Facilities, to include identifying hazards created by others who are working and/or visiting the campus.Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalency.

Must be at least 19 years of age.

Must meet the requirements of Section 943.13, Florida Statutes, and have the ability to pass the state certification exam for Law Enforcement Officers within six months of being hired.

Ability to work in dangerous and stressful situations.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to probe and obtain critical facts.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Ability to collect and evaluate data; to apply laws, rules, regulations, and policies to situations using appropriate judgment.

Ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner; and to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

Ability to complete complex psycho motor skills necessary to drive a patrol vehicle; operate a bicycle; and use of standard lethal and non-lethal weapons as appropriate in the application of law enforcement duties.

A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain.

This position requires completion of a supplemental employment questionnaire and a post-offer employment physical exam, drug screening, psychological evaluation, police background check, and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI)/Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) fingerprinting.Preferred Current FSU Police Department employees that qualify for the position; eligible veterans and their eligible spouses in accordance with Chapter 295 of the Florida Statutes;

Certified Florida Law Enforcement Officers; Individuals who have passed the State Certification Exam.

Individuals currently enrolled in a State of Florida recognized Criminal Justice Training Center who are within 30 days of graduating and can show proof they are signed up to take the State Certification Exam.Anticipated Salary Range Starting Salary: $40,000Pay Plan This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.Schedule Law enforcement officers assigned to the Patrol Division will work 12 hour shifts (6:30pm-6:30am or 6:30am-6:30pm), 84 hours bi-weekly. Additionally, the position may be required to assist during home football games, holidays, and during state, national or University emergencies.

Special assignments as directed by law enforcement chain of command.Criminal Background Check This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting.
