The Department of Social Work at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) occasionally has the need to hire non-tenure track, part-time Lecturers to teach in its
Bachelor’s/Masters of Social Work program. Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction within the program.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to scholarly work, student success and to adva ncing the university, college, and program missions and are committed to

MSW/MSSW from a CSWE-accredited social work program; five years post-master’s degree practice experience; social work license or license eligibility. Social work license (LMSW or
LCSW) required for teaching clinical practice courses.

Preferred QualificationSocial work teaching experience; experience in online teaching and distance education programs; bilingual (English and Spanish); knowledge of the cultural, social and economic characteristics of the United States/Mexico border region; and international experience.

Additional InformationUTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
Please NoteTexas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

A New University with a Long History
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.
Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.
UT Brownsville and UT Pan American
The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.
Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
