General Summary of Position:

University Relations is responsible for promoting the university to the campus, prospective students and families, alumni, granting institutions, legislators and the general public. The Assistant Director of Marketing will serve as a project manager, strategist and writer for a variety of internal communications campaigns, event publicity efforts and special projects of the university and its constituent colleges.

Essential Position Duties:

Project management – Set timelines, track deliverables, confirm approval chains, create assessment plans, manage internal communication and feedback across a portfolio of projects.

Creative services – works with the marketing staff, collaborators on campus and vendors to create and refine messaging/creative output within the brand guidelines of the university. May involve extensive writing and editing.

Collaborative contact – work with collaborators across campus to assess their needs and goals and present an appropriate marketing intervention. Serve as their point of contact from initial request through final assessment.

Assist, as needed, with enrollment marketing programs at the request of the director of enrollment marketing. Duties could include writing and testing email, brochures, or supporting specific college/program marketing objectives.

Promote understanding of good marketing practice and the university’s brand guidelines with collaborators across campus. Maintain a thorough knowledge of current marketing techniques and their uses and applications.

Promote the University’s commitment to customer service by:
Building effective partnerships with co-workers throughout the university by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed.
Ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information.
Maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications or related field
  • 5-7 years in marketing or corporate communications environment

  • Proven ability working collaboratively
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Able to work independently
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of AP Style
