DENTAL ASSISTANT, PRE-DOC, School of Dental Medicine, Clinical Affairs

The Dental Assistant, Pre-Doc will function as the secondary dental assistant supporting the Implantology suite within the Periodontology department.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare operatories for surgery using sterile technique, assist residents and maintain supplies. Maintain and sterilize department owned equipment and instruments. Responsible for maintaining the organization of all surgical kits and track kit usage.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills to plan and oversee the procedures in the implant suites with available resources. Distribute bone and log bone/implants placed during surgical procedures. Communicate with Implant Coordinator when implant components are needed during surgery. Document usage of each implant kit for each surgery so that drills can be replaced at specific intervals to ensure implant success.
  • Prepare the operatories with instruments using sterile technique. Demonstrate a strong knowledge of instruments used for all procedures by assembling kits and checking for completeness after use. Proficiency in setting up various machines such as Implant motors, Piezotome and pulse oximeter. Log out/log in instruments for resident use following established protocol.
  • Take all necessary radiographs of diagnostic quality as requested by residents and faculty including periapicals, FMXs, panorexes and CBCTs.
  • Prepare surgical implant cases for the upcoming week utilizing Salud and SPS systems. Verify faculty authorization of contract, compare implant orders submitted against implant orders received from the implant coordinator. Allow for last minute component and scheduling changes. Return components to implant coordinator for completed and ongoing cases. Maintain department inventory of components and document usage.
  • Perform dental assistant responsibilities in the Periodontology clinic as needed including chairside assisting during Periodontal procedures.

  • Vocational or Technical training required
  • CDA preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience required
  • Dental Implant experience preferred
