The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia seeks to fill an Assistant Professor of Political Science, Tenure-Track position with an anticipated start date in Fall 2019.
Built upon the strong foundation of one of the nation's top public universities, the Batten School combines rigorous training in policy analysis with a unique emphasis on the acquisition of leadership skills. The research faculty includes psychologists, economists, and political scientists, and is enriched by professors of practice who bring real-world policymaking expertise to the classroom. The School currently offers an MPP degree and an undergraduate major in public policy and leadership, as well as multiple dual degree programs with other units at U.Va. Given the interdisciplinary nature of this position, the candidates would have the potential for a joint or secondary appointment with other academic units at U.Va.
Candidates must have a PhD, or be on track to attaining the PhD, by August 1, 2019. Candidates must have the desire and ability to teach courses on leadership and public policy at the undergraduate (BA) and graduate (MPP) levels. Relevant courses in the curriculum focus on the politics of the policy processes. We invite applications from candidates who have earned their doctorate in political science with a focus on American Politics. Candidates with a focus on political institutions within American politics including but not limited to bureaucracy, legislative politics, parties, national or state/local are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates who study these topics as they relate to social policy are particularly encouraged.
