Occupational Summary:

The Senior Director for Alumni and Regional Engagement Programs is responsible for the strategic planning, creation & implementation, and maintenance of alumni programs that foster strong relationships and goodwill with alumni. The Senior Director builds programs of interest to alumni constituents broadly defined [including MD graduates, young alumni; Golden Blue Devils and Half Century Society members; trainee alumni (residents and fellows) and PhD alumni in SOM basic science departments; graduates of allied health degree programs (such as PhysicianAssistants and Physical Therapists; current students, house staff, and emeriti faculty; and,Duke undergraduate and professional school alumni who have an interest in the School of Medicine and Duke Health].This position reports to the Assistant Vice President for School of Medicine Development and Alumni Affairs, and works collaboratively with colleagues in School of Medicine Development and Alumni Affairs, as well as with Duke Health Special Events, Communications, and others in the School of Medicine(Student Affairs, Registrar, Financial Aid) and Duke University (Alumni Affairs, Regional Programs, etc.) to maximize alumni engagement, avoid duplication of efforts,and build loyalty, institutional pride, and financial support of the Duke School of Medicine.

Work Performed:

Strategic Planning, Management and Administration 25%
Create a robust and fully integrated program for medical alumni,students, young alumni, Half Century and trainee alumniin the School of Medicine consult with program staff on the development of alumni engagement programs for the Physician Assistant Programand Doctor of Physical Therapy Program. Develop a regional program strategy for alumni and other constituencies important to the schools,the research enterprise and the clinical missions. Serve as the primary point person with the Duke University Alumni Association and participate in the alumni programs in DAA and in other Duke graduate and professional schools. Staff the Medical Alumni Association and oversee daily operations of the Alumni Affairs Office,including annual planning and goal setting, personnel management, program evaluation, and providing leadership for the alumni affairs program,including an expansion of regional programming. Develop benchmarking program, provide reports on program success, event participation and financial reports, and provide reports to the Executive Director on a monthly and quarterly basis. Ensure accurate and complete alumni database records; capture contact, biographical and career information of alumni via surveys, projects (e.g. alumni directory), correspondence, website, postal returns, etc. Oversee the maintenance ofaccurate records and pertinent information using the development and alumni affairs database,including updating committee membership, event participation, etc. Oversee day-to-day activities of the Office of Alumni Affairs including staff hiring and supervision, performance appraisals, work study students, and make recommendation on staffing structure, promotions and salary levels. Supervise Associate Director and, as appropriate any work/study or temporary employees as assigned.

Alumni Programs and Events 50%
Guide the development of successful alumni programming, finding ways to engage alumni as well as trainees, faculty, students, and other natural constituents in meaningful and rewarding ways that deepen their commitment to the Schoolof Medicine.Create and implement an annual plan that promotes alumni goodwill,loyalty, engagement, and philanthropy though creative programming and thoughtful event strategies. Ensure that engagement programs reinforce thematic content, priorities and goals of the School of Medicine.In collaboration with colleagues (Medical Annual Fund, Reunion Giving,Development, SpecialEvents, Communications,etc.), develop programs, including the following annual events: MedicalAlumni Weekend and class reunions; the MAAAwards Program; and coordinate with the SOM direct mail program to align with the comprehensive annual alumni communications and solicitation calendar. Develop Duke Health programming and content to leverage DAA on campusand regional engagement programs. Work with the Special Events team to insure coordination and alignments with School of Medicine and Duke Health events and programs.Create a vibrant five-year reunion program for classes celebrating fifth through 60th Reunions as well as members of theHalf Century Society (50+ years) and Golden Blue Devils. Oversee thedevelopment of a Young Alumni program andother new programming, including new models for engaging young alumniin reunion. Work collaboratively with colleagues in annual and reunion giving to coordinate alumni programming in ways that set the stage effectively for reunion giving programs.Help develop programs to engage and cultivate current house staff and house staff alumni. Work closely with the Associate Director to educate graduating students about alumni benefits, keeping them engaged and collecting address and other contact information as they head off to residency training.

Alumni Communications 10%
Use alumni engagement programming to build and foster positive alumni relationships. Leverage Duke Alumni Affairs,regional alumni boards, and other volunteer opportunities to further deepen and broaden programs for alumni engagement. Help other leverage these programs for development purposes.Ensure that content of alumni communication is aligned with leadership priorities and the School's leading initiatives.Integrate and showcase approved thematic content into regional engagement events. Participate in School of Medicine communications planning meetings,which include Duke Health communications,School of Medicine communications, and as needed other communicators across Duke and Duke Health.

Alumni Board and Alumni Volunteers 15%
Work closely with the Assistant Vice President to assist with the volunteer engagement of the Medical Alumni Council,and collaborate with other to ensure that regional engagement programming offers opportunities for all Duke Health volunteers and board members. Volunteer engagement duties may include organizing meeting logistics, staffing councilsubcommittees (awards committee, nominations committee, and others asassigned), fostering strong and productive relationships. Ensure that there is coordinate between the Medical Alumni Council and Duke University AlumniAssociation Board,regional alumni boards, Duke Women's Weekend, and other Duke Alumni programs. Ensure that all alumni and alumni volunteer engagement programs reflecting positively on the quality and professionalism of the School of Medicine, Duke Health, and Duke Universitybrands.

Position requires some travel and a commitment to working some evenings and weekends.Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/TRAININGWork requires analytical, organization and communications skillsgenerally acquired through abachelor's degreeprogram. Master's education preferred.
EXPERIENCEMinimum of 10 years related alumni and development programs managementexperience.Significant programdevelopment, personnel and project management experience stronglypreferred.
