Responsibilities

Responsible for the overall direction, administration, and management of the accounting functions of Campus Recreation and manages daily activities of the accounting staff. Ensures accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports of the department's $7 million annual operating budget. Responsible for the organization and accuracy of Campus Recreation books including cash journals and general ledger and ensuring the department's records reconcile with the University's accounting system.

Manages all budgetary functions for department. Prepares, creates, and enters annual operating budget into University systems, submits rate methodologies, and completes UBIT reports. Forecasts department expenditures and monitors budgets for inappropriate charges; identifies, researches, and corrects errors in transfers, interdepartmental requisitions, and other transactions. Reviews trends of financial data and activity to identify unusual activity and reports discrepancies to Director.

Generates payroll reports to monitor and track wage, salary, and benefits charges. Prepares monthly sales tax reports. Manages fiscal year close-out processes and reporting and compiles Sweepings reports for relevant accounts.

Coordinates staff development efforts for the supervised staff and supports training of other departmental personnel responsible for accounting functions. Monitors and analyzes accounting work to develop and implement new procedures to enhance workflow of the department. Develops and implements financial internal control procedures, process documentation, and other relevant procedures. Establishes and implements departmental financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, or university policies. Develops and oversees cash handling procedures for department and ensures facility and program areas adhere to procedures to ensure compliance.

Compiles and analyzes data to maintain multi-year trends of revenue and expenses for the department and specific program areas. Prepares special reports and budget analyses to assist senior management team with budget preparation and analysis. Participates in short and long range planning and makes recommendations on financial and budgetary operations related to the business functions of the department. Responds to requests from the Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs, Director of Campus Recreation, and Associate Directors of Campus Recreation regarding financial reports. Responds to audit requests as needed.

Acts as back-up Purchasing Card proxy and performs other duties as assigned to support the mission of Campus Recreation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma/equivalency and six years of experience related to the duties of this position.

(Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)

Experience compiling, reviewing, and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

Experience using and knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
