Click here for an example. The McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia seeks highly qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director for Career Development. As a member of a dynamic team committed to providing exceptional service to students and employers, the Assistant Director must be an innovative, enthusiastic and results-oriented team player. The Assistant Director for Career Development will assume a wide variety of individual and group advising, counseling, programming, and career placement responsibilities for both undergraduate and graduate students as needed, and will have a particular focus on identifying and attending to the specific coaching and programmatic needs of the graduate students in the M.S. in Accounting program.

The primary role of the Assistant Director is to provide career coaching and job search assistance to students. This role includes one-on-one coaching on career decision-making and facilitation of large group workshops. The Career Development Team works very closely together and collaborates on student advising and career coaching, programs, and employer visits. Coaching includes assistance with career exploration and research, resume writing, networking, interviewing skills, online media presence, job search strategies and offer evaluations.

A Master's Degree in counseling, student affairs, higher education or a related field and at least two years of professional experience in an industry or career services setting involving advising/coaching, program development, and events coordination is required. Candidates must have excellent verbal, written and presentation skills and the ability to perform with a high degree of professionalism professional settings and functions and in interactions with students, employers, faculty and alumni. The ability to manage multiple projects, and demonstrate solid planning and organizational skills with a high degree of quality and attention to detail is required. Evidence of demonstrated initiative in devising process improvements, programs, and resources is essential. Strong computer skills, basic Excel and PowerPoint knowledge is required, and a familiarity with relevant career services technologies is preferred. The availability to work evenings and occasional weekends as necessary (most programs are conducted after 5:00 pm) is required. Candidates should be motivated self-starters, who demonstrate both an entrepreneurial and customer-service oriented mind-set, and who manifest a genuine passion for helping students develop personally and professionally.
