Requirements: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent, and have achieved ACVS board certification or completed residency training with credentials accepted by ACVS. Preference will be given to candidates with ACVS certification, advanced degree(s), a track record in scholarship, and/or prior research training.

Duties: The surgery program at the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine is a highly productive and dynamic group of specialists who have achieved excellence in the arenas of comparative research, resident instruction, and high quality practice of cutting-edge diagnostics and therapy for companion animals.

Upon joining our team, the successful candidate will provide clinical service in small animal soft tissue surgery, participate in clinical instruction of surgical residents, interns and veterinary students, and communicate effectively with clients and primary veterinarians. The University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine is dedicated to faculty development and personal growth. We are committed to providing support for equipment and training to candidates with special interests or skills in developing specialty fields including minimally invasive surgery and interventional radiology.

The successful candidate will find many opportunities to pursue his or her soft tissue surgery interests. Teaching responsibilities will include didactic, small group and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in clinically and scientifically relevant research projects. Candidates interested in collaborative research will find ample opportunities to partner with CVM faculty as well as the biomedical research community on our main campus. Our veterinarians have been integral to the creation of the new Carle-Illinois College of Medicine- the world’s first engineering-based college of medicine- leveraging advanced technology to train physician- innovators to deliver better, more compassionate and accessible care to patients worldwide.

Percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate’s appointment title.

Facilities: The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a full-service facility providing both primary care and the full spectrum of specialist services. Our small animal surgical facilities are currently being renovated to provide world-class facilities for our surgical team. The service is equipped to perform thoracoscopy laparoscopy and other endoscopic procedures, using harmonic scalpel, Ligasure®, fluoroscopic-assisted surgery and laser-assisted procedures. On-site services include digital radiography, computed tomography, 3T MRI, radiation therapy, Dual Energy X-Ray absorptiometry, gait analysis and physical rehabilitation. A state of the art Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator with on-board imaging is currently being installed in our hospital to optimize our oncologic therapy capabilities.
