Duties: Upon joining our Equine Medicine and Surgery service, the successful candidate will be expected to provide clinical service in equine surgery, and occasionally in food and fiber animals. The equine surgery program at Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine is composed of a highly productive and dynamic group of specialists who have achieved excellence in the different arenas of comparative and clinical research. Illinois’ Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a full service facility with a strong surgery caseload. The Equine Medicine and Surgery service is looking for a third faculty to join our 2 large animal surgeons and 3 large animal internists. The Equine Medicine and Surgery service currently has 2 ACVS-LA residents and an ACVSMR resident, 1 LA surgery intern, and 3 rotating interns. Illinois’ Veterinary Teaching Hospital has 2 surgical suites with state-of-the art equipment to perform soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. On-site services include digital radiography, ultrasonography, nuclear scintigraphy, computed tomography, 3T MRI, gait analysis (AMTI force plate and lameness locator), and rehabilitation. The Illinois’ Veterinary Teaching Hospital is planning an exciting, large-scale expansion of our surgical suites and induction areas. We also have a satellite clinic that has the opportunity to grow a sports medicine and surgery caseload. Individuals interested in certification in the College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation have the opportunity to train with two ACVSMR-Equine faculty members.

Illinois is highly focused on faculty development and growth and will provide support for equipment and training to candidates with special interests or skills in any of these fields. Percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate’s appointment title.
