St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is part of St. John’s University. The Undergraduate Division seeks applicants for an Associate Dean position on the Queens campus to oversee the day-to-day management of the office, including supervision of assistant deans and staff, and monitoring of undergraduate programs (enrollment, retention, persistence, graduation, and placement). Responsibilities include coordinating program assessment for all undergraduate programs on the Queens and Staten Island campuses; assisting the Dean with teaching observations and with reviews of applications for teaching reductions and research leaves; and with special projects. The Associate Dean works closely with department chairpersons, program directors, and the College’s other associate deans on issues pertaining to course scheduling, development of new courses, and development of new academic programs. In addition, the Associate Dean serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council, the Liberal Arts Faculty Council, and represents the Undergraduate Division at Enrollment Management and planning unit sessions when necessary. The Associate Dean is expected to maintain an active program of research and scholarship in his or her field.

Eligible candidates will possess a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a liberal arts and sciences discipline and be eligible for appointment as an associate or full professor in one of the College’s departments. The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship; a commitment to the Mission of the University; excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills; an attention to detail; a commitment to diversity; and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, administrators, and staff. In addition, the successful candidate will have experience implementing high-impact educational practices; experience working across units to implement student success initiatives aimed at improving retention, persistence, graduation, and academic performance; and experience in faculty development aimed at improved pedagogy. Experience working within a collective bargaining environment is desirable and some administrative experience is preferred but not required.
