Job Description

The Library Specialist I, under supervision, provides general customer service and other basic library functions in one or more library units. Under close supervision, learns more advanced library functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides general customer service support for library users.
  • Responds to basic questions and instructs library customers on accessing library online catalogs, research guides, physical collections, and other electronic reference databases. Performs data entry and records updates in spreadsheets.
  • Performs validation and reconciliation of library resources against invoices or shipping documents.
  • Assists in the more advanced, intermediate library functions in one or more operational units of the library.
  • May use some advanced reference and other resources to resolve problems.

    Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma and one year of related library experience.

    KSAs:

    • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of email and internet search engines.
    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Basic keyboarding skills.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to move medium weight boxes, books, heavy book truck or similar items.

    Other Requirements:

    • Ability to handle material containing dust or microscopic mold spores.
