Job Description

The College of Education & Human Development, Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation, seeks innovative and engaging applicants for a full-time, tenure-track appointment for an Assistant Professor Special Education-Low Incidence Disabilities. The Special Education program reflects an active faculty devoted to teaching, service, scholarship, and professional development. Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning Fall 2019 for an Assistant Professor of Special Education with an emphasis in Special Education-Low Incidence Disabilities. Successful candidates will teach undergraduate/graduate level courses in special education while working collaboratively with faculty to build a comprehensive education program supporting diverse populations. Successful candidates may also supervise field-based students and clinical teachers.

 
In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will assess, mentor students, serve on departmental and College committees and work with current faculty to build department level strategic plans and processes, and support the culturally and linguistically diverse populations served by the University; and maintain professional development through engagement, interaction, and relevant activities. Candidates will be expected to work in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of the Educator and Leadership Preparation and with community partners in addition to the involvement in campus activities and other responsibilities, as deemed necessary. 

An active service and research agenda with publications and conference presentations strongly preferred. Quality performance will be expected in teaching, student mentorship, community service, as well as active university committee participation. Preference will be given to applicants with research and teaching experience in the area of low-incidence disabilities.

Work hours vary with schedule.

The successful candidate will: 
•    Demonstrate two or more years of experience teaching at the college/university level.
•    Demonstrate experience teaching via different formats (e.g. Face to Face, Hybrid, Online)
•    Teach graduate and undergraduate classes in the Special Education program 
•    Fulfill service responsibilities to the Department of Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation and the University; 
•    Maintain professional development through engagement, interaction, and relevant activities; 
•    Work in collaboration with other colleagues in the Department of Department of Educator and Leadership Preparation and community partners, 
•    Demonstrate proficiency in technology, and 
•    Support students in preparation for Texas state certification in EC-12 Special Education (TExES Exam)
•    Demonstrate an active research agenda, or the potential for one

Necessary Qualifications:
•    An earned Doctorate Degree in Special Education or closely related field 
•    18 graduate hours in each field(s) in which candidate will teach.  
•    Valid teacher license in special education
•    Experience working with culturally diverse populations. 
•    Evidence of teaching, service, and scholarly potential/productivity. 
•    3 years minimum lead teaching experience in a special education setting
•    Demonstrated Knowledge related to Special Education-– Low-Incidence Disabilities
•    Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide excellent customer service to students, employees and the community

Preferred Qualifications:
•    Teaching experience in higher education including advising and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.  
•    Teaching in PK-12 system – Low-incidence disabilities populations
•    Teaching experience in higher education including advising and supervising undergraduate and graduate students.   
•    Field based mentoring/supervision experience of pre-service teacher candidates
•    Proficiency in technology and applications
