Job Description:

Saybrook University is seeking an adjunct faculty instructor to join the Department of Mind-Body Medicine in the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences (CIMHS).  The person hired for the position may reside anywhere within the continental United States so long as they have continuous reliable internet and telephone services. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in required faculty meetings (e.g., training and orientation, pre-semester meetings, technology updates, Institutional Review Board).
  • Learn how to utilize technology in the online classroom and implement creative ways to support student learning.
  • Foster critical thinking and high-level engagement with the students through online discussion forums, videoconferences, and other assignments as outlined in the course syllabus. 
  • Log into the online course at least three times per week and provide substantive feedback on written assignments; respond to student questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with faculty mentor and department chair on course development, syllabus revisions, and student engagement activities.
  • Attend residential conferences if assigned to teach.
  • Serve on dissertation research committees as a subject matter expert.
  • Maintain effective professional involvement and/or affiliations as an ambassador for the university.


  • Doctorate from a regionally-accredited institution of higher learning (preferably in psychology, health sciences, or related field).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and practice. 
  • Minimum, two years of experience teaching in an online education program.
  • Subject-matter expert on the following topics related to the health and wellness profession:
    • Complementary and Integrative Approaches in Healthcare
    • Philosophy and Science of Mind-Body Medicine
    • Lifestyle Medicine
    • Humanistic Approaches in Healthcare
    • Ethics and Standards of Practice
    • Multicultural Competencies
    • Graduate Level Research Methods
    • Career Planning and Marketing Strategies
    • Grant Writing
  • Evidence of professional engagement with complementary and integrative paradigms in practice, research, and/or education.
  • History of speaking engagements, poster and/or paper presentations at professional conferences.
