Work Schedule

Most of the time the work schedule is Monday through Friday, either 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. On some occasions, will need to work nights and weekends at various hours. Must be flexible to work different shifts as necessary.

The Registration Supervisor is responsible for issuing parking permits to and maintaining a database for employees, students and approved others that use the parking facilities at Rice University. S/he will be responsible for ensuring accuracy of all registration transactions and will provide excellent customer service. The Registration Supervisor will also develop, motivate and evaluate parking attendants that report to them. The Registration Supervisor reports to the Parking Manager.

Education Required HS Diploma or equivalent Major/Discipline Substitution for Education Requirement

Experience may not be substituted for the education requirement.

Education Preferred

Associate’s degree.

Experience Required 4 years Type of Experience

Experience in auditing data and customer service with at least one year of supervisory experience.

Experience Preferred

- Experience in parking fee-based computer systems, traffic and parking control devices, accounting and revenue control procedures
- Visitor operations; parking operations management; and knowledge of industry standards with respect to federal, state and local laws pertaining to enforcement, traffic and parking
- Experience in the higher education environment
- Ability and willingness to work with new systems, particularly parking software as it is implemented
- Experience auditing financial data

License/Certification Required

Valid Texas Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment) required with no more than three (3) moving violations or at fault accidents in the past three years and no convictions or deferred dispositions for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) within the past five years.

License/Certification Preferred Skills Required

This person will have visibility as a university representative. S/he must have a pleasant personality, a cooperative attitude and generate a positive impression with the public and Rice community. This person will meet frequently with students, faculty, and staff of the university. This person will have contact with the outside community and with visitors attending events on campus.

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs daily to move items such as barricades, gate equipment and other supplies. Must be able to move around campus to access all Rice buildings, parking lots and garages. Must be able to drive golf carts, vehicles, power scrubbers and sweepers; operate hand tools; and must have manual dexterity to complete basic mechanical repairs.

Working Conditions

Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor (up to 75% of a regular work day and 90% for special events) work environments which include parking garages, offices, parking lots. Includes exposure to temperature and weather extremes (heat, cold, rain, etc). Work can be stressful at times. Work Hazards: Exposure to fumes, exhaust, and possibility of injury from operating vehicles, heavy machinery, and power tools. Work Schedule: Varied work schedule up to 40% of the time and may be required to work overtime up to 25% of the time although most hours will be adjusted to minimize overtime.

Job Duty Name Essential Functions Description of Job Duty

- Accurately enters and audits parking transactions to ensure proper parking facility access and accounting
- Coordinates any changes to our customers’ parking (e.g. lot closure notices, permit expiration, termination, updates, etc.)
- Keeps ample inventory on all necessary supplies for the registration office
- Oversees and trains the Parking Office staff and their work to make certain that their work is accurate
- Evaluates the performance of your reports
- Ensures quality of product and services
- Keeps all duties handled to the highest level of ethics
- Gathers and maintains data for preparing reports, often using a variety of computer software a applications
- Follows and acts as a source of information on established department policies and procedures and advises customers and staff on options and alternatives
- Provides for smooth day-to-day flow of communications to customers and Parking Office from the Registration Division
- Reports to and keeps Parking Manager informed on all needs of the Registration Office, its staff and customers
- Keeps facilities and staff safe
- Performs all other duties as assigned
