Benefits Eligible No Eligible for Overtime Yes Position SummaryThe Rice University Endowment is approximately $6 billion and ranks in the top 20 endowments of private research universities (by market value) in the US. The endowment is critical to the university’s ability to achieve its goals. The annual distribution from the endowment funds nearly half of the university’s annual operating budget. The Rice Management Company (RMC) was established October 1, 2009, as a division of Rice University. The goal of the RMC is to provide a stable source of funding for current university operations and to preserve and grow the purchasing power of the endowment to benefit future generations of students. The RMC is responsible for all endowment matters of the university including asset allocation, the selection and termination of investment managers and monitoring performance of the portfolio, and reporting to the Rice Management Company Board of Directors. The endowment primarily utilizes outside investment managers and invests globally across all asset classes.
The position will help manage the University’s direct oil and gas holdings (mineral, royalty and net profit interests) and handle transactional work relative to these holdings. Royalty revenues will be analyzed in depth to ensure that proper payment is received. Expense review will also be necessary in respect to the University’s net profit interests. The position will also be responsible for maintaining systems that allow the University to efficiently process incoming royalty checks, analyze the accuracy of royalty payments, develop mapping capabilities, assist with internal reporting, and prepare data for 3rd party engineering and valuation reports. As needed, this role will be an integral part of creating and implementing new systems and process improvements.

Experience Preferred- Five to eight years minimum total experience.
- Experience in the Gulf Coast region.
- Strong quantitative and communication skills

- Ability to work in a small team environment
- Familiarity with all basic oil and gas contracts and comfort in drafting and amending contracts

- External contacts include the oil and gas community, vendors, Accountants, engineers, consultants, etc.
Working on computer for extended time during a work day.

- Maintains applicable systems including implementing new systems as needed

- Prepares and maintains internal cash flow models for reporting
- Markets mineral interests for lease
- Negotiates favorable lease terms
