Position Description

Part-Time Lecturer Position at Rice University’s Center for Languages & Intercultural Communication located in Houston, TX.

Rice University’s Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication (CLIC) invites applications for a part-time Lecturer in Arabic.

This part-time appointment will begin 1 July 2019. Upon successful performance review, the appointee can be offered additional contracts.

Responsibilities include teaching, with special attention to the design, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the syllabus, exams and other assessment instruments and daily lessons and development of a coherently articulated program of instruction across levels of competency. Teaching takes place in the context of implementing our innovative, research-based curriculum and participating in CLIC governance (e.g. faculty meetings). Additional responsibilities may include assisting with the development and revision of assessment instruments.

The full-time equivalency (FTE) will be determined by center needs and is estimated to be between .67 and 1.0. Salary will be commensurate with credentials, experience and demonstrated ability to develop research-based, innovative second language curricula. Rice offers good institutional support for professional development and state-of-the-art technological facilities are available.

Other Required Qualifications

Requirements: M.A. Foreign Language Education or related field, native or near-native ability in Arabic; and at least 1 year of Arabic teaching experience at the U.S. university level. If M.A. is in a related field, 1 year of training in second language pedagogy also required. Competence to teach another language offered at CLIC, and Ph.D. degree would be beneficial.
