Benefits Eligible Yes Eligible for Overtime No Position SummaryUnder minimal supervision, the Data Analyst collects, analyzes, and interprets various types of data, using varied types of data sets and software, utilizing analytical, statistical and communication skills.
Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy seeks a Data Analyst to provide technical support, develop queries, run reports, and monitor overall data quality. S/he will work primarily with the university’s CRM software, Blackbaud CRM (OwlConnect), and be responsible for the integration of the CRM with the Baker Institute website.
The Data Analyst will work with key stakeholders within the Baker Institute management team to understand the business needs of the institute, and then addresses those needs through technology, where possible. The Data Analyst works closely with business and technology teams throughout the university to implement solutions that meet the needs.

Experience Preferred- Three or more years of related experience working with Blackbaud CRM or Salesforce databases.
- Previous work developing and implementing processes for improved data quality and analysis is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Blackbaud CRM and Blackbaud Internet Solutions (BBIS).
- Experience training internal users in Salesforce or Blackbaud.
- Proven ability to implement CRM standard procedures across multiple systems.
The Database Administrator will work closely with the administrative team of the Baker Institute as well as university-wide Blackbaud CRM administrators.

- Distributes and disseminates reports accordingly
- Devises methods for identifying data patterns, trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques
- Determines and recommends additional data collection and reporting requirements
- Designs and customizes reports based upon data in the database
- Serves as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistics or surveys
- Leads the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection
- Collaborates with client / department manager to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics
- May test prototype software and participate in approval and release process for new software
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Organize and maintain prospect research information so that it can be systematically retrieved and utilized upon request
- Respond to data requests and assist in the collection of data from a variety of sources including donor and event attendee lists
- Support the collection, management and reporting of key information by documenting and clarifying data flow; organizing, cleaning and cross-checking data, and conducting simple data analyses
- Design and create queries/exports for data extraction and ad-hoc list pulling for mailing and other communications, contact lists, geographical constituent lists, etc.
- Suggest and implement ways to streamline and simplify procedures for increased efficiency and accuracy
- Coordinate resources for the flawless execution of various projects that require OwlConnect data – various reports, information campaigns and outreach efforts
- Build dashboards and visualizations using Tableau for discussions with various stakeholders
- Research ambiguous or incomplete updates to ensure constituent records are complete
- Clean up and validate data as directed, including special projects
- Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources to incorporate changes or new data to OwlConnect
- Maintain and manage documentation regarding list criteria, obtaining appropriate approval before and after data extraction and sharing
- Assist in testing data as needed
- Assist in documentation and policy/procedure writing as needed
- Ensure accuracy of information by making revisions according to policies and procedures
