This position is in the established MSU Denver Western Educational Equity Assistance Center (Region IV); a renewable five year grant, from the United States Department of Education. The WEEAC offers professional development, technical assistance, and resources to ensure that equitable education opportunities are available and accessible for all children. The Equity Specialist Coordinator will collaborate with school districts, state departments of education (in a thirteen state/commonwealth region), and others receiving federal funds to give technical assistance and training in the areas of civil rights for K-12; preventing discrimination and harassment based on race, national origin, religion, and gender/sex as it relates to Title VI and Title XI. The staff at the WEEAC Center also assists with inclusive educational excellence for all students to achieve educational equity, and others, who may be discriminated against. *English Language Learners (ELL) are included as it relates to discrimination based on national origin. Grant writing and technical writing using quantitative and qualitative analysis will be a key aspect of this positon. The Equity Compass is a key element in the WEEAC grant and the successful candidate will have a background in the development and implementation of equity instruments and evaluation tools. Travel throughout the thirteen state and commonwealth service region is required. All staff must pass a background check, required by MSU Denver and many schools with whom staff might work. This is a full-time benefited position with current funding from October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2021.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating training and technical assistance programs for requesting eligible clients; K-12 school districts, state departments of education (in a thirteen state/commonwealth region), and others receiving federal funds. Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, working in the areas of race, national origin, religion, and gender/sex – preventing discrimination, harassment, isolation, and bullying as related to the areas listed for K-12.
50% – Training, Travel, and Record Keeping – One of the priorities of the Department of Education is for the Equity Assistance Centers to address issues of socioeconomic disparity and school desegregation. Coordination and consulting with clients; developing contacts with Region IV (Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and Guam). The coordination, development, and maintenance of professional networks in Region IV is expected. Travel to these regions, as part of a staff of six (Equity Specialist Coordinators), is @ 50% of the work week responsibility; note weekend and evening travel may be required. Travel arrangements are coordinated by an administrative staff member; flight and hotel arrangements are pre-paid, reimbursements for per diem and miscellaneous expenses are prompt. Record keeping will be necessary for travel, training, projects, and technical assistance.
35% – Workshop Trainings, Resource Development, Evaluation, and Data Analysis – Expectations of this position include the development of workshops, trainings, and resources for clients, (e.g., video and teleconferencing, distance learning, online courses, contributing to a virtual education clearing house, etc.). Record keeping and assisting in the evaluation of work at the Center is expected. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, develop and maintain skills to utilize technology in service delivery, have the ability to develop educational resource materials (print and digital) for the Center as well as for clients and the website. Conducting data analysis for program improvement or to determine programmatic services or needs is expected. This position will also be a collaborative member of the WEEAC staff and assist with the development, coordination, and delivery of EAC conferences and workshops.
15% – Other duties as assigned: The work of an Equity Assistance Center requires, and often demands, flexibility on the part of staff including working with other staff members to assist them as needed, collaboration on projects, and the ability to travel, at times, with short notice.Required Qualifications
*Master’s degree in Education (TED, ECE, SED, Multi-cultural, etc.), Educational Leadership, Sociology, or a related field.
*A minimum of three years, full-time professional work, preferably in an education setting.
*Experience developing workshops, trainings, or classroom instruction including relevant resources and materials
*Experience working with diverse student populations including non-traditional students, students of color, and students who may be English Language Learners.
*Experience providing training, instruction, or technical assistance in the area of civil rights to include: race, gender, national origin inclusive educational excellence and equity
*Experience with record keeping in regards to travel, training, technical assistance, and/or comparable assignment.
*Experience working with community and/or campus constituents to develop and implement a program, event or workshop.
*Doctorate degree in Education (TED, ECE, SED, Multi-cultural, etc.), Educational Leadership, Sociology, or a related field.
*Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
*Experience and demonstrated success in writing for and/or working on large state or federal grants.
*Willingness to learn and work in subject areas outside of degree field but related to Center work.
*Ability to foster collaborative relationships to develop or implement a program, event or task.
*Strong documented background in educational research and data analysis.
*A background in state education policy and project management.
