Strong candidates will display a proven record of published work in chemistry-based pedagogical innovation. This position places a strong focus on excellence in both teaching and mentoring through research. The position will include teaching Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, and General/Organic/Biochemistry (GOB) courses.
The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be expected to teach Introductory Chemistry, General Chemistry, and General, Organic, and Biological Chemistry lecture courses, and potentially advanced courses within the candidate’s specialty. Classes are primarily taught in a face-to-face format, but online courses are also offered or can be developed. Beyond the classroom, teaching duties include preparing for assigned courses, assessing student progress, conducting curricular review, curriculum development, program review, and evaluating the use of new technology. The candidate will also be expected to develop and mentor an active research program in Chemical Education, and the department places a strong emphasis on the importance of undergraduate research and teaching experiences. There are many opportunities in the department to discuss and inform students, student employees, and faculty regarding innovative pedagogy. The Chemistry Department is undergraduate-only and has approximately 300 majors and services over 1,500 others. Metropolitan State University of Denver is a primarily undergraduate institution (PUI) with a strong focus on the educational needs of a diverse urban population. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the collegial environment of the department, collaborating and helping the department and the university to establish preeminence. The candidate will also support the university through internal and external service activities and advising, and conduct scholarly activity that leads to publishable works in the field of post-secondary education.

Required QualificationsPh.D. conferred by June 1, 2019 in Chemical Education, Chemistry, or closely related field.
Preferred QualificationsDemonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; at least two semesters of post-secondary teaching experience; general chemistry teaching experience; record of peer-reviewed publication in pedagogical innovation; experience working collegially with multi-disciplinary teams and diverse populations; experience in research with undergraduate students; record of extramural funding; postdoctoral experience.
