Job Description Summary

Under the general supervision of the Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, and in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Pre-licensure Program, the Co-Coordinator of the Nursing Science Lab is responsible for providing quality support services as needed within the Nursing Science Labs to all students and faculty in the College of Nursing and Health Professions.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University’s Mission along with the Catholic and Lasallian higher education.

-Assists with developing and maintaining procedures for: cleaning, storing and maintaining all clinical lab equipment; updating inventory of all clinical lab equipment and supplies; borrowing and returning of lab equipment. Responsible for running and care of simulators.
-Assists with training and supervising all graduate assistants in equipment preparation, maintenance, disinfection and cleaning, inventory, retrieval, and storage.
-Communicates and maintains regular hours of student clinical skill practice with graduate assistants.
-Communicates with lead instructors of all clinical pre-licensure courses to identify needs. Assist with developing and running simulation scenarios involving simulators and standard patients.
-Collaborates with the Assistant Dean of the Undergraduate Pre-licensure Program, and Lead Faculty of clinical pre-licensure courses to develop and submit lab equipment requests based on anticipated need and CONHP strategic plan.
-Orders and stores supplies.

Minimum Qualifications

A BSN required, MSN preferred. The equivalent of two years of full time, current clinical nursing experience is required. Previous experience with simulated manikins or interest in professional development to increase knowledge of computerized simulation in the lab. Licensure as a registered professional nurse in the state of Illinois or eligibility for it with the application in process is required

    Founded in 1932 under the direction of the Chicago Archdiocese and Bishop Bernard J. Sheil, Lewis began as the Holy Name Technical School for boys. Aviation technology was the special emphasis of instruction and the origin of today’s highly regarded Department of Aviation. In 1952 the school was renamed the Lewis College of Science and Technology. In 1960, the De La Salle Christian Brothers - members of a 326-year-old religious order devoted exclusively to teaching and named after Saint John Baptist de La Salle, their founder and Patron Saint of Educators – assumed direction of the institution. Today, with growing enrollment, outstanding programs, experienced faculty and motivated students, Lewis University is recognized as one of the finest, mid-sized, comprehensive Catholic universities in the country.

    A Welcoming Campus
    The Lewis main campus in Romeoville, Illinois, is a picturesque 376-acre setting which houses more than 1,300 students in 12 residence halls, all within walking distance of well-equipped classrooms, the library, the JFK Recreation and Fitness Center, the Student Union, and the Sancta Alberta Chapel. Lewis regional campuses are located in Chicago, Oak Brook, Tinley Park, Hickory Hills and Shorewood. All campuses are easily accessible to corporate offices in Chicago and the suburbs, making it easy for students to complete professional internships. Lewis welcomes students of all cultures and religious faiths with a 30 percent minority population and a ratio of 60 percent Roman Catholic to 40 percent other Christian/non-Christian faiths.
