Description:

Lafayette College Library is seeking a friendly, dependable and customer service focused Circulation & Reserves Technician. This position is responsible for opening the library every weekday morning. Working with the Collection & Facilities Technician, this position manages the circulation and reserves desks, supervises student workers and provides daily customer service interactions.

Job Duties Include: Responsible for day-to-day operations of combined circulation and reserves desk. Position performs a variety of detail-orientated administrative and technical functions. The work involves planning for and directing the circulation of library and instructional technology materials. This involves supervising and supporting student workers who are primarily responsible for circulating books, laptop computers and technology equipment; managing holds and sending bills to patrons; maintaining the course reserves system; and answering patron questions in person, by email or by telephone. This position also manages patron records, which involves technical ability, judgment, and the ability to comply with federal confidentiality laws. The position requires on-going cooperation with the Collections & Facilities Technician to assure the completion of the Access Department's responsibilities and the ability to effectively communicate and work with all library staff to provide a complete and seamless service to faculty, students and other library patrons.


Qualifications:

Requirements and Qualifications: Dependability and reliability to open the library building on time in the morning. Established office computing skills; knowledge of library software (Innovative Interfaces Sierra software or similar) and billing software (Banner or similar); and proofreading proficiency. High degree of independent judgment, organization, multi-tasking. Superb customer service skills and the ability to communicate successfully with a wide array of audiences. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, colleagues, and the general public. At least two years of related library services experience or equivalent experience in a customer service focused profession. Experience supervising staff or students preferred. College degree preferred. Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
